In a recent Variety interview, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar delved into the casting switch for the iconic role of Don, which transitioned from Shah Rukh Khan to Ranveer Singh. Farhan clarified that he and Shah Rukh couldn't align on the narrative direction, leading to their joint decision to go their separate ways. He stated, “I’m not in the business of replacing anyone. These were conversations we had over the years, where I envisioned taking the story in a certain direction, but unfortunately, we couldn't find a common ground. We amicably parted ways, believing it was probably for the best. That's where things stand.”

Farhan Akhtar expressed his enthusiasm for Ranveer leading the upcoming film Don 3, emphasizing Ranveer's high level of excitement for the project. It's a substantial film, especially from an actor's perspective, and we're really looking forward to having him on board. His vigor is invigorating all of us, in a way."

The initial teaser of the movie introduced Ranveer in a striking and magnetic persona, delivering impactful dialogues. The Gully Boy star has conveyed his strong determination to pay homage to the legacy of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, who garnered immense admiration for their respective portrayals of Don.

The film's production is slated to kick off in 2025, and there have been rumors circulating about Kiara Advani being considered for the lead female role.
