"Sufficient numbers of Swifties expressed their displeasure towards the "Poor Things" actress for her quip at the Golden Globes, prompting her to vow to refrain from making jokes about her longtime friend in the future."

"Some individuals lack a sense of humor, and their reaction has led Emma Stone to retreat from using sarcasm. In a recent interview with Variety, the lead actress of Poor Things expressed remorse over her playful comment regarding her friend Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes in January.

Following Stone's triumph at the Golden Globes for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy on Jan. 8, Swift could be seen enthusiastically cheering for her in the audience. When asked about this reaction backstage that evening, Stone dryly remarked, "What an a--hole, am I right?"

It appears that some of Swift's fans didn't grasp the sarcasm, which can be challenging to convey in written form, and may have been unaware of the longtime friendship between Swift and Stone. Their ensuing offense proved to be too much for the actress, who has since vowed to refrain from making similar jokes."

Stone expressed regret for her previous joke, stating to Variety, "I definitely won’t make a joke like that again, because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context." She then humorously referred to herself, saying, "What a dope."

Variety interviewer Stephen Rodrick did not remark on whether these comments were delivered sarcastically.

Taylor Swift has hinted at her friendship with Stone in her music, particularly evident in last year's reissued album, Speak Now (Taylor's Version), which featured a new bonus track titled "When Emma Falls In Love." Entertainment Weekly has suggested that the song's lyrics contain clear allusions to Stone.
