The actor observed that Costner had immersed himself in "passion projects," such as his forthcoming Western film, "Horizon: An American Saga," indicating his busy schedule.

Luke Grimes comprehends the reasoning behind his Yellowstone counterpart Kevin Costner's decision to depart a tad sooner than expected, opting to ride off into the sunset.

In a recent interview with the Independent, the actor portraying the youngest son of Costner’s character John Dutton III, spoke about his co-star's unexpected departure from the show during its fifth and final season.

"It's regrettable if whatever occurred there has altered the course of the show," remarked Grimes, acknowledging Costner's recent preoccupation with his passion projects such as his upcoming film, Horizon: An American Saga.

"At some juncture, you just have to follow your heart," he remarked. "You've got to pursue what you're passionate about."

In May of last year, Paramount revealed its plans to conclude Yellowstone following its fifth season. This announcement followed closely on the heels of Deadline's report, stating that the network sought to wrap up the popular Western series due to Kevin Costner's desire to reduce his filming commitments.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan expressed disappointment to The Hollywood Reporter regarding Costner's early departure, noting that it cuts short the resolution of his character's arc. Nonetheless, Sheridan affirmed that his admiration for Kevin Costner's acting prowess remains unchanged.

"I've never encountered an issue with Kevin that couldn't be resolved through a simple phone call," Sheridan remarked. "However, when legal teams become involved, communication breaks down, leading to untrue statements and attempts to shift blame based on public perception. Kevin bore much of this with grace, and I don't believe anyone deserves such treatment. His dedication to his film project is evident, and I sincerely hope it pays off and delivers a quality production."

Even though he's stepped away from the limelight, Costner seems reluctant to retire his cowboy persona just yet. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor hinted at the possibility of returning to Yellowstone down the line.

"I've truly enjoyed my time on that series. I've dedicated five seasons to it, initially planning for seven," he revealed. "The future is uncertain, with various projects in the pipeline. But who knows? Perhaps fate will bring me back to Yellowstone. If the opportunity arises and it feels right, count me in."
