Ladies and gentlemen, let's have a drum roll! The moment has arrived to unveil this year's esteemed inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the pinnacle of musical recognition.

During the recent "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night" episode of American Idol, the dynamic duo of host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie took the stage to announce the names of the illustrious artists joining the Hall's ranks. Among them are the incomparable talents of Mary J. Blige, the timeless icon Cher, the legendary Dave Matthews Band, the electrifying Foreigner, the virtuoso Peter Frampton, the groove masters Kool & The Gang, the Prince of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne, and the groundbreaking A Tribe Called Quest. These luminaries are being inducted under the Performer Category, celebrating their extraordinary contributions to music and their profound influence on the rock & roll landscape.

To qualify for induction into the Hall of Fame, an artist or band must have released their debut commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of consideration. Among the eight performers inducted, four were nominated for the first time this year, including Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang, and Frampton.

Cher's inclusion follows her public criticism of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, where she expressed disdain for never being nominated. "Even if they offered me a million dollars, I wouldn't join now," she asserted on The Kelly Clarkson Show in December. "My stance won't change," she firmly declared. "They can just, you know, do their thing."

The Rock Hall is paying tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield with the Musical Excellence Award. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals who have significantly shaped music through their originality and influence as artists, musicians, songwriters, and producers.

Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton have been bestowed with the Musical Influence Award, recognizing artists whose musical contributions and performance styles have significantly shaped and progressed rock & roll, leaving a lasting impact on youth culture.

Additionally, Suzanne de Passe is set to receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, acknowledging her pivotal role as a non-performing industry professional who has profoundly influenced the development of the art form.

Among those nominated this year yet not chosen for induction are Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, and Sade.
