Eminem is now facing off with Slim Shady, addressing the persona that nearly derailed both his career and his life.

In Complex’s July 2024 cover story, the 51-year-old rapper participated in a “spirited conversation” with an AI-generated Slim Shady, in a feature titled Slim Shady vs. Marshall Mathers: The Face-Off.

“I created you because my life was a mess. My music wasn’t progressing, and I was struggling financially,” Em told Slim, reflecting on the challenging times during the release of Slim Shady (1997) and The Slim Shady LP (1999).

The Rap God added, “You didn’t resolve anything. You actually made things worse. You’re the reason I had to turn to self-medication. Because of you, I nearly lost my career, my family, my life.”

He emphasized, “Things have been much better since you’ve been gone.”

Earlier this month, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, said goodbye to his most legendary alter ego in his new conceptual album, The Death of Slim Shady: Coup De Grâce.

“Look, man. I’ve grown up, bro. My fanbase has grown up. The world’s changed,” Eminem told Shady.

Despite this personal evolution, he still felt the weight of his past.

“People are so much more sensitive now. Every week on TikTok, Gen-Z finds me on Monday and cancels me by Tuesday,” Eminem vented his frustration.
