Andrew Garfield Opens Up About ‘Intimate, Passionate’ Scene with Florence Pugh in We Live in Time

Andrew Garfield recently shared insights into his strong working relationship with Florence Pugh while filming We Live in Time, including details about an intense, passionate scene they performed together. The Golden Globe winner discussed this during an event at 92NY on Friday.

Recalling the experience, Garfield highlighted a particular “intimate, passionate sex scene” they filmed on a closed set. Cinematographer Stuart Bentley was present, but had to look away, making the moment even more private.

“The scene was choreographed to become increasingly passionate,” Garfield explained, as reported by Deadline. “But we went a little further than expected because we didn’t hear ‘cut.’ It felt safe, so we let the scene continue naturally.”

He added, “At one point, Florence and I telepathically realized, ‘This is taking longer than usual.’ I glanced over and saw Stuart, camera by his side, turned to face the wall.”

This trust and comfort were credited to the supportive environment on set. Both Garfield and Pugh praised director John Crawley for creating a secure atmosphere during filming, something Pugh emphasized during the movie’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“I couldn’t have done it without feeling safe,” Pugh shared. “Neither of us would have been able to go that far without John’s guidance and the space he provided.”
