Anne Hathaway Excitedly Reacts to 'Princess Diaries 3' Confirmation on Instagram

Anne Hathaway shared her enthusiastic reaction to the official announcement of Princess Diaries 3. The Intern actress took to Instagram on October 4, just hours after director Adele Lim confirmed to Variety that the beloved series will soon return with a third installment.

In the video, Hathaway is seen outdoors, holding up one finger while saying “One.” A clip from the original Princess Diaries movie follows, where her character, Mia Thermopolis, famously says “Shut up” upon discovering she is the Princess of Genovia. Hathaway then holds up two fingers, followed by a second clip featuring Julie Andrews as Mia’s grandmother, who also exclaims “Shut up!” in astonishment.

The video concludes with Hathaway holding up three fingers and announcing “Three,” repeating the iconic “Shut up” line. Her caption read, “Miracles happen… Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues.”

Fans of the actress and the franchise were quick to flood the comments with excitement. Singer Kelly Clarkson wrote, “Already seated, queen,” while another fan gushed, “I’m seated. I’ve never been more seated!”

Adele Lim, who is directing the third movie, expressed her enthusiasm in a statement to Variety, saying, “As a passionate fan of the Princess Diaries, I’m beyond thrilled to bring this cherished franchise back to life. We’re excited to celebrate the themes of female empowerment, joy, and mentorship with audiences everywhere.”

The first Princess Diaries movie debuted in 2001, with its sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, released in 2004, both directed by the late Garry Marshall.
