Megan Thee Stallion is taking control of her narrative with her new documentary.

At the premiere of Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words on Wednesday, October 30, the Grammy-winning rapper shared her initial reservations about revealing her life story. However, she felt compelled to speak out, stating, “I started to watch a lot of people dehumanise me… that’s why I even agreed to do the documentary in the first place.” Megan, 29, reflected on her decision, saying, “Let me just go ahead and tell my truth… Y'all don't respect s*** else, but raw and honesty.”

She continued, “I was trying to be a cookie-cutter celebrity for y’all. I’m sorry that didn’t work out.”

Born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, the WAP hitmaker took a moment to honor her late mother, Holly Thomas, whom she credits for her personal growth. “I wouldn’t be the woman I am without Holly Thomas,” Megan stated, emphasizing that the documentary is a “perfect opportunity” to connect with her fans on a deeper level and pay tribute to her roots.

Megan recalled her mother’s advice to “keep her business private” as she reflected on the vulnerability of sharing intimate moments with director Nneka Onuorah, whom she commended for ensuring the project's authenticity.

With Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words premiering on October 31 on Prime Video, the film promises to provide insight into her journey of resilience, grief, and fame — a story she is now sharing on her own terms.
