Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's POLO docuseries criticized for animal cruelty allegations in polo sport.

The upcoming Netflix docuseries POLO, produced by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has ignited a significant backlash following the release of its trailer on Thursday. The five-episode series, which showcases athletes competing in the controversial sport of polo across the U.S., has raised alarm among animal rights advocates due to concerns regarding the treatment of horses used in the sport.

Polo, a sport often criticized by organizations such as PETA for its alleged links to animal cruelty, has sparked intense debate. Animal rights activists are particularly upset by the footage presented in the trailer, fearing that it glorifies mistreatment of animals for entertainment purposes.

One viewer voiced their anger, stating: “Watching a series that glorifies animal abuse is utterly despicable. Shame on you Netflix.” Another fan commented, “This is a vile sport in terms of how they treat those animals.” A third viewer chimed in, declaring, “This is a celebration of animal cruelty,” while others shared similar sentiments, expressing their disgust over the treatment of animals in polo.

While the controversy continues to mount, some viewers remain excited to watch the docuseries. One fan praised polo, stating, “Polo is such a great sport,” while another eagerly added, “I can't wait to watch it.” A third simply expressed, “I want to watch. I'm curious.”

POLO, which offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the world of polo—a sport that holds special significance for Prince Harry—will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 10. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix in 2020, following their decision to step down as working royals. Their first production, Harry & Meghan, shattered Netflix records upon its release.
