Ekta Kapoor Slams Critics, Defends Indian Content
Popular TV and film producer Ekta Kapoor has hit back at claims that Indian content does not match the standards of global cinema. On March 21, 2025, Kapoor took to her Instagram Stories to express her views, questioning whether such criticism stems from ego, anger, or misplaced accusations.
She referenced the box office failures of critically acclaimed films like Superboys of Malegaon and Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders, arguing that audience preferences play a major role in determining a film’s success. According to Kapoor, blaming industry insiders is ineffective, as the “real culprits” are the audience themselves.
"Indian Content is in Its Adolescence Stage" – Kapoor
Kapoor elaborated on the evolution of Indian audiences, stating, “Since it's no fun blaming people in abstract terms (because they can't be brought down on social media), let’s just say that India is still in its adolescence when it comes to content consumption.”
She further criticized corporate studios and streaming platforms, accusing them of prioritizing profits over creativity. “These money-hungry studios and apps only care about numbers (including me). Movie-making and content creation is an art, not just a business,” Kapoor wrote.
Kapoor’s Solution: Filmmakers Must Fund Their Own Projects
In her closing remarks, Kapoor urged creators to self-fund their projects, emphasizing that investing personal money can lead to real change. “I urge creators to put their own money in. Problem solved!” she stated.
