Lionsgate Confirms Keanu Reeves' Comeback in 'John Wick 5' and an Animated Prequel
Keanu Reeves is officially stepping back into the world of John Wick for not just one, but two highly anticipated projects.
At CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas on April 1, Lionsgate officially confirmed 'John Wick: Chapter 5', with Reeves reprising his role. Franchise director Chad Stahelski, along with producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, are also on board to develop the sequel.
"Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world," said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, via People magazine.
John Wick Animated Prequel in the Works!
But that’s not all – Reeves will also voice John Wick in an upcoming animated prequel. Directed by Shannon Tindle, the film will delve into Wick’s legendary “Impossible Task”, the night he eliminated all his rivals to break free from the High Table and be with his wife, Helen.
Stahelski, who has often cited anime as an influence on the franchise, stated, "I feel John Wick is the perfect property for this medium."
The Expanding John Wick Universe
Since debuting in 2014, Reeves has portrayed the lethal assassin in multiple sequels, including John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
The franchise continues to grow, with Ana de Armas’ spinoff 'Ballerina' hitting theaters on June 6, and an upcoming TV series titled 'John Wick: Under the High Table' further expanding the universe.
