HBO has officially announced a fresh lineup of actors set to portray key characters from George R.R. Martin's 'Fire and Blood,' with Lord Cregan Stark among the notable figures.

A war between kin is detested by the gods, and the most gruesome conflict is one among dragons," cautions Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) in the sneak peek trailer for the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon, set to return to HBO next summer.

Surprising fans at the CCXP convention in Brazil on Saturday, the new footage from the fiery Game of Thrones prequel series was unveiled. HBO heightened the anticipation by confirming a roster of actors set to portray significant characters from George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood.

Clinton Liberty (Normal People) takes on the role of Addam of Hull; Jamie Kenna (Children of Men) steps into the shoes of Ser Alfred Broome; Kieran Bew (Warrior) embodies Hugh; Tom Bennett (David Brent: Life on the Road) portrays Ulf; Vincent Regan (One Piece) brings Ser Rickard Thorne to life; and Tom Taylor (The Dark Tower) assumes the highly anticipated character of Lord Cregan Stark.

The teaser provides a glimpse into the somber aftermath of the crucial Season 1 finale, wherein the demise of Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault), the young and gentle child of Rhaenyra Targaryen, unfolded during an aerial clash on dragonback with Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell).

This preview diverges from the footage revealed to the press in New York City during the 2024 lookahead presentation at the beginning of November. The sorrow is palpable on Rhaenyra's ash-stained visage, the rightful queen of the Iron Throne, as she gazes solemnly from Dragonstone castle. Meanwhile, her husband and uncle, the fiery Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), appears poised for vengeance in his wartime armor.

"The conflict will rage on, claiming many lives, and the eventual victor will ascend to the throne," declares Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke).

"Under the guidance of showrunner Ryan Condal, 'House of the Dragon' unfolds the gripping tale of the Dance of the Dragons—a harrowing and protracted conflict from the annals of Westerosi history that brought ruin to the once-mighty Targaryen Empire. In its inaugural season, the series set the stage for impending chaos: Rhaenyra, the chosen heir to the Iron Throne by her father, faced opposition from the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower (played by Rhys Ifans), and his faction. They successfully seized the Westerosi crown for Otto's grandson, Aegon II Targaryen (portrayed by Tom Glynn-Carney). The pivotal moment, marked by the demise of Lucerys at the jaws of Aemond's mount Vhagar, reverberated as the 'shot heard around the world.' With this tragedy, the stage is now set for the commencement of war.

For a deeper exploration of the trailer and casting details, EW's official Game of Thrones podcast, 'West of Westeros,' returns during the off-season to analyze all the footage and unveil the latest insights. Be sure to catch the upcoming episode premiering this Sunday."
