Country singer Ingrid Andress performed the national anthem at the Home Run Derby on July 15. However, her rendition, marking the start of the MLB event, unexpectedly gained widespread attention on social media for its less-than-perfect delivery.

At the 2024 Home Run Derby in Globe Life Field, Arlington, Texas, the four-time Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter sang the “Star-Spangled Banner”, but her performance, marked by missed notes, sparked discussions among viewers and sports commentators across social platforms.

The rendition of the national anthem at the 2024 Home Run Derby on ESPN by Ingrid Andress, a four-time Grammy-nominated artist, left an impression, according to Awful Announcing's account on X.

Another user commented, 'It's impressive how Ingrid Andress managed to miss every single note. That was painful #HomeRunDerby.'

Sports Illustrated writer and podcast host Alex Carr expressed, 'I'm sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I've ever heard in my life. I'm so sorry.'

The camera subsequently focused on several players, notably Alec Bohm from the Philadelphia Phillies, struggling to stifle his amusement. Many viewers promptly likened this moment to Fergie's memorable rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

Respecting Ms. Andress' considerable talent as a country singer, her performance of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ fell short of expectations. While acknowledging her charm, it's fair to say it didn't quite hit the mark," expressed CBS Sports writer Mike Axisa.

ESPN originally uploaded a video showcasing Ingrid Andress’ performance on YouTube, though the clip has since been removed from the platform.

The 32-year-old artist achieved acclaim with her 2019 breakout single “More Hearts Than Mine” and released albums titled Good Person and Lady Like. Her achievements include nominations for four Grammy Awards in 2021, spanning categories such as Best New Artist, Best Country Song, and Best Country Album. In 2023, her collaboration with Sam Hunt on the track “Wishful Drinking” garnered attention as a contender for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

CBS Sports reported that Brad Andress, the father of Andress, has served as a strength and conditioning coach for teams including the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, and the University of Michigan.
