Buckingham Palace Issues Urgent Security Alert for King Charles and Prince William
Buckingham Palace has issued an urgent security warning as new risks threaten the safety of King Charles and Prince William. The royals, known for their environmental advocacy, have switched to electric vehicles within the palace grounds, opting for greener alternatives. However, concerns have arisen over potential vulnerabilities in the technology used in these cars.
Security expert Robert Pritchard, who has advised the late Queen Elizabeth and ministers on cybersecurity, told The Sun, "Electric cars are more susceptible to hacking due to their advanced technology, especially if manufactured by Chinese companies, which could potentially access sensitive location data."
King Charles has been seen driving a Lotus Eletre SUV, manufactured by a company that is 51% Chinese-owned. Similarly, Prince William and Kate have also been provided with a comparable vehicle. Despite the eco-friendly nature of these electric cars, they present cybersecurity challenges, with the possibility of hackers not only tracking their location but also remotely controlling the vehicle.
While the King had considered dropping his electric Audi, especially after using it during a stay at Balmoral this summer, concerns over hacking persist, even with the vehicle's self-driving feature disabled in the UK. The Palace has yet to comment on these heightened security risks.
