Kendrick Lamar Reveals True Story Behind Drake Diss Track ‘Not Like Us’ | Feud Ending Explained
October 17, 2024
Kendrick Lamar’s diss track Not Like Us served as the final nail in the coffin of his long-standing feud with Drake, which came to a head in March and April 2024.
In a recent interview with SZA for Harper's Bazaar, Kendrick opened up about the deeper meaning behind the track. While many viewed Not Like Us as an angry attack, Kendrick clarified that his intent was far more profound.
"I don't see myself as an angry person," the 37-year-old rapper shared. "But I believe in love and war. Both are necessary, and my understanding of that lets me respond to situations without defining myself by them."
His explanation reveals that the powerful emotions in his music are less about anger and more about channeling those feelings into something meaningful.
When SZA asked about the significance of Not Like Us, Kendrick emphasized, "It’s the reflection of who I am, the type of man I strive to be. A man with morals, values, and a firm belief in something.”
He added, “This is a man who can recognize his own faults, isn’t afraid to share them, and who can confront fear-based ideologies or experiences while staying true to his sense of self.”
Not Like Us not only topped the charts, but it also marked the official end of Kendrick’s 10-year feud with Drake, with their rivalry peaking in early 2024. The track cemented Kendrick’s legacy as an artist unafraid to speak his truth, while gracefully closing the chapter on their public dispute.
