Petersen, a key figure in the band's early years, played on timeless classics such as "I Started a Joke," "To Love Somebody," and "I Just Gotta Get a Message to You."

His passing was confirmed on social media by his band, Best of The Bee Gees, who shared a heartfelt tribute: "It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our dear friend Colin ‘Smiley’ Petersen. He enriched our lives and bound our group with love, care and respect."

Joining the Bee Gees in 1966, Petersen became a vital part of their groundbreaking music. He contributed to their legendary albums, including "Bee Gees’ 1st," which featured chart-topping hits like "New York Mining Disaster 1941" and "To Love Somebody."
