LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Sunday that promising left-handed batsman Saim Ayub will receive specialized medical treatment in London for a fractured ankle, as reported by Geo Super. This decision underscores the PCB’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare for its players.
Following thorough consultations with leading medical experts, the PCB prioritized an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan for the talented young cricketer, Saim Ayub. This proactive approach aims to ensure his swift return to the cricket field.
Chairman Naqvi personally contacted Ayub to inquire about his condition and conveyed his sincere wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. He emphasized the importance of securing expert care, confirming that Ayub will be evaluated by highly regarded orthopaedic specialists in London, renowned for their expertise in sports injuries.
A crucial appointment has been scheduled at a prestigious London hospital, ensuring access to cutting-edge medical facilities and the best possible treatment for the rising star of Pakistan cricket. This proactive measure reflects the PCB's dedication to player welfare.
Dr. Mamreze, who has been overseeing Ayub's initial treatment in Pakistan, has diligently forwarded the cricketer's comprehensive medical reports to London for further in-depth evaluation by the specialists. This seamless transfer of information ensures continuity of care.
Chairman Naqvi commended Dr. Mamreze’s dedication and reiterated the PCB's unwavering commitment to providing all necessary resources and support to facilitate Ayub's full rehabilitation and return to competitive cricket.
"Saim Ayub is a stylish, talented, and exceptional batsman, a valuable asset to Pakistan cricket," stated Chairman Naqvi. "We are committed to doing everything within our power to ensure his complete recovery from this injury. He will be sent on the next available flight from Cape Town to London, accompanied by Assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood, who will provide crucial support and ensure his well-being throughout the journey and initial treatment phase."
The unfortunate injury occurred during a fielding attempt on the first day of the second Test match against South Africa at Newlands Cricket Ground on Friday. While attempting to stop the ball, Ayub lost his balance and fell awkwardly, resulting in the ankle fracture.
An MRI scan conducted on Friday afternoon confirmed the fracture, leading to the immediate immobilization of his ankle with a protective medical boot. Consequently, Ayub will be sidelined from cricketing activities for at least six weeks, requiring focused rehabilitation.
Despite this setback, Chairman Naqvi expressed optimism that the talented opening batsman will make a full recovery and be fit to participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy hosted in Pakistan. This highlights the importance of Ayub to Pakistan’s cricketing future.
"The PCB will leave no stone unturned, utilizing all available resources to support Saim Ayub's treatment, rehabilitation, and full return to the Pakistan cricket team," Chairman Naqvi firmly assured. This emphasizes the board’s commitment to player welfare and investing in the future of Pakistan cricket.
