Benny Blanco recently opened up about his early struggles in pursuing Selena Gomez, revealing surprising details about their relationship before they became a couple.

During a deep conversation on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the power couple reflected on their love journey while promoting their new album, I Said I Love You First.

The 37-year-old music producer confessed that before they started dating, he actually tried to set Gomez up with a friend—assuming she wasn’t interested in him at all.

“I thought she hated me. Obviously, 99% of it was in my head,” Blanco admitted in the interview.

Recalling their initial interactions, he shared, “I was talking to her and said, ‘Oh my God, I have so many good single guy friends… We have dinners at the house all the time. You should come over sometime.’”

Blanco, whose real name is Benjamin Levin, revealed that their first hangout was far from romantic in his mind. He added, “I wasn't even thinking about anything [romantically] with Selena. We were just talking about our ideal dates and what we look for.”

This heartfelt revelation comes just days after the release of their highly anticipated joint album on March 21, featuring tracks like Scared of Loving You, Call Me When You Break Up, and Sunset Blvd.
