Jean-Claude Van Damme Denies Human Trafficking Allegations Amid Romanian Criminal Probe

Hollywood action icon Jean-Claude Van Damme has publicly addressed serious trafficking allegations linked to an ongoing criminal investigation in Romania. The claims suggest that the actor knowingly engaged with five Romanian women who were reportedly victims of sexual exploitation during a high-profile Cannes event.

In a strong rebuttal shared with PEOPLE, Van Damme’s agent, Patrick Goavec, firmly dismissed the allegations as “grotesque and non-existent.”

“We have become aware of articles alleging an alleged affair in Cannes involving Mr. Jean-Claude Van Damme,” Goavec stated in a translated message. “The reported facts are both grotesque and non-existent. Mr. Van Damme does not wish to comment or fuel this rumor, which is as absurd as it is unfounded.”

The allegations emerged after CNN affiliate Antena 3 reported that a formal criminal complaint had been submitted to Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). The report claims Van Damme, 64, had intimate encounters with five women presented to him as a “gift” by a criminal group headed by Morel Bolea.

The women, described as Romanian photo models, were allegedly victims of exploitation.

Lawyer Claims Victims Were Vulnerable

Attorney Adrian Cuculis, who represents one of the alleged victims, told Antena 3:

“They were in a state of vulnerability, with the suspicion that they were exploited within the meaning of Article 182 of the Criminal Code.”

Cuculis added that the women were allegedly offered to Van Damme during a Cannes event he hosted. He stated, “From the witness statements, it is very clear that Jean-Claude Van Damme knew that these people were being exploited.”

Investigation Expands Into Broader Exploitation Ring

The ongoing DIICOT investigation reportedly includes a wider human exploitation probe, spanning five years and involving multiple individuals, potentially including cases involving minors.

Morel Bolea, named in the report, has strongly denied any connection with the actor. Speaking to Page Six, Bolea called the story “completely fake news.”

Meanwhile, Van Damme’s team maintains its firm denial, refusing to engage further with what they label an “unfounded narrative.”
